Not A Hardcore Collector?
Here is some vocab I wish I knew when I first started collecting. It might help you understand what others are talking about.
Card - the package. Card sometimes specifically refers to the cardboard section of the package with the picture of the character. Also referred to as "card back". Collectors will say "mint on card". This is equivalent to "mint in box" or "new in package".
Variant - when a car is revised and then rereleased under the same exact name. The newly revised car supersedes the old one; the old one is no longer produced because the newer one is deemed more accurate.
Example: Fred in Cars 1 was originally too large so Mattel rereleased a smaller Fred and ceased production of the larger Fred. Both Freds were named "Fred".
Version - when a car is available with different decorations or styles, and each car goes by a unique name.
Example: Lightning McQueen is available as "Rust-eze McQueen", "Cars 3 McQueen", "Fabulous McQueen", etc. These are all versions of McQueen.
Chase - this describes how rare a car is. When a car is chase, that means less than 4,000 of them will be manufactured.
Single - short for "single pack". Same goes for "double" with regard to "double pack"
Case - cars come in assortments of 24. These assortments/boxes are called cases.
Wave - when different cases ship simultaneously, the cars in these cases are part of the same wave. Wave can also refer to cars exclusively within a single case.
